Get to know us
Hi there,
My name is Leigh Tsottles, and that handsome man standing next to me is Chris, my best friend and husband of 18 years. He might not be the face of Grid Iron Hill Farm, as he really doesn’t enjoy working with the animals like I do, but he’s always helping me create and build and has been the most supportive person to me. He’s a busy man, working full-time off farm with the family construction business. We also have 6 beautiful children together who I homeschool here on the farm. They all play a part in making this farm work. Together we raise Randall cattle, Jacob and Katahdin sheep, Mulefoot pigs, heritage and broad breasted turkeys, and a variety of chickens for both laying eggs and meat.
The Lord has blessed us far more than we deserve, but it still hasn’t come without our fair share of heartache and agony. About 15 years ago, after we had our first daughter, I suffered with repeated miscarriages. No one had any answers for us and it forced me to take a really good look at how we were living our lives. What foods were we eating? What toxins did we have in our home? What products were we using on and in our bodies? Endless questions and searching for answers. All this research led me down the rabbit hole of raw milk, grass-fed animals, GMOs, and so so much more. With raw milk being illegal to sell here in Maryland I decided I needed to reach out to a dairy farmer and buy a cow from him so I could get my own milk. Sure enough, a local farmer was kind enough to sell me my first Holstein cow and 2 bull calves. That was the beginning step towards my dream of raising all our family’s foods on our farm. Now, here we are many years later, and I’m super excited we are now able to offer exceptional food to our local family, friends, and community.
